Date palm column
Dating

From a Corazim synagogue: a single of dual columns that would have flanked a ark where a Torah scrolls were kept. The mainstay is a span of stylized date palms — that have been not found around here. They have been standard of dried oases though not of this richer, semi-arid site. we consternation if they were dictated to elicit a Sinai Desert, where Moses perceived a Torah. The crooked lines have been rarely stylized, nonetheless an uncannily great evocation of a patterning upon a genuine date palm’s trunk.

The stone here is basalt, really tough as well as formidable to work. Nevertheless, a synagogue was richly flashy with pleasing carvings. It dates from a early 4th century CE, with replacement work in a 6th (after an earthquake).

You’re right, which looks identical! Yes, difficult with these transliterated languages though we found it underneath Umm el-Qanatir & Umm el Kanatir: it’s in the Golan Heights & dates to the identical period.

Maybe those alternative mainstay patterns paint alternative sorts of trees. we recollect saying the turn a single similar to which during Banias too.

Now we instruct we had a shot of a date palm! Here’s somebody else’s that shows a bellow well. It’s essentially supernatural how that elementary linear crooked manages to constraint a geometric settlement shaped by a bellow ‘scales’ (which have been essentially a ruins of strew leaves): http://www.flickr.com/photos/mathias_m/50756655/

Got it: it’s a palm tree! Now it all creates sense. Date palm — dried oasis crop, will grow in sandy dirt with really small water, sugar-packed (‘Tamar’, used as a girl’s name, equates to ‘date’).

Interesting … right away which we consider about it, date palms would be found in a loyal desert, a great stretch to a south — here, not so much. This area is Mediterranean, semi-arid — divert as well as honey, vine as well as fig tree, olives & wheat. But a dried is in actuality where a Torah came from — since to Moses upon Mt Sinai.

So how does a bombard fit in to a symbolism? (If in actuality it was over a ark — they’re not certain of that, so may be it only could have been a lintel of a circuitously door.)

many interjection – good photos btw! :)

by ‘singular’ i am meditative of the distinguished zig-zag outcome upon the mainstay – was wondering what this signified? taken together with the leaflet i reputed the little class of internal tree?

that bombard niche is the good item as well.

Yes, they appear to have favourite botanical or alternative healthy motifs.

The centerpiece of the very old synagogue would have been an ark during the front of the room, where the Torah scrolls were kept — fundamentally the saved wall cupboard (same as in the synagogue today; only google complicated images if we wish to get an idea). It was surrounded by the span of these columns. Here’s an additional view:

And they consider this bombard design was substantially set on top of the ark:
    DSC05642

So we theory the columns would have upheld the shell. Does which have sense? Sounds similar to we know the lot about this. Can we insist what it equates to when we contend unaccompanied pillars?
